Overview

  • The instrument NEUTRA ( Neutron Transmission Radiography) was the startup facility for neutron imaging at the SINQ (Swiss Spallation Neutron Source at PSI) and is nowadays one of the top instruments in the field for neutron imaging in the world. During the year 2005 the new instrument ICON ( Imaging with Cold Neutrons) is going into operation, as well as the new X-ray tube installed in NEUTRA, which allows combined studies with both neutrons and X-ray under the same experimental conditions.

  • Neutron irradiation service provides two facilities: the PNA ( Preparative Neutron Activation) for the production of isotopes and the NAA ( Neutron Activation Analysis). These services have a long tradition at PSI. They started in the early 60s of the last century at the research swimming pool reactor SAPHIR and are continuing at the SINQ.
